New Flat Now Available! Glasgow City Centre

LEIPER APARTMENT
Flat 3/2, 121 West George Street, Glasgow G2 1QR

Spacious two bedroom apartment sleeping 4 in an ornate Victorian red sandstone building in the heart of the City Centre.

ACCOMMODATION
The apartment is named after William Leiper, the architect of this handsome building which dates back to 1870. Sculptures on the façade include the emblems of the Sun, Life and Fire Insurance company of Canada for whom the building was built.

In later years the building was occupied by Abbey National building society, but it has since been sympathetically renovated to provide top quality apartments retaining many of the original architectural details on the upper floors.

The apartment sleeps 4 and is on the third floor, with secure entry and a lift. High ceilings and many large windows make this spacious apartment bright and airy. With balconies opening from the lounge and bedroom and looking down on both West George Street and Renfield Street it is a great place to watch the Glasgow world go by!

Opening off a large central hallway are a lounge, separate kitchen, two double bedrooms and a bathroom.

The carpeted lounge has a pair of striking arched French windows with original wood panelling, which open onto a stone balcony. There are two comfortable sofas, a flat screen TV and DVD/CD player with a selection of DVDs and CDs. Wireless broadband is available free of charge for the use of guests with laptops.

The fitted kitchen has an electric oven and hob, a fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave and washer/dryer. It is well-equipped with crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and everything else you will need. There is a breakfasting area for 2 in the ktichen, while a dining table and chairs for four people is conveniently located in a corner of the hallway just by the kitchen door.

The large master bedroom, located in the corner turret of the building, has no less than four bay windows, surrounded by original wood panelling. It has a king size bed and ample wardrobe and drawer space for your belongings.

Flexible arrangements in the spacious second bedroom allow us to set this up with one or two single beds, or a double bed as required. An attractive feature of this room is the French window opening onto a stone balcony.

The tiled bathroom has an electric shower with glass shower screen over the bath, plus washbasin, WC and heated towel rail.

In addition, the apartment has all the essentials, including an iron and ironing board, vacuum cleaner and cleaning materials.

There are electric storage heaters throughout the apartment.

ELECTRICITY All electricity costs are included in the rental.

LINEN All bed linen, towels and tea towels are provided free of charge.

LOCATION
Leiper Apartment is ideally situated for exploring the city centre with many shops, restaurants, bars, theatres and other attractions within walking distance. It is less than five minutes walk from both Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street, Glasgow’s two main shopping streets, and there is a wide choice of restaurants and bars just a few metres from the door. The massive 18 Screen Cineworld – in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s tallest cinema - is just a couple of minutes walk away, while theatres and other tourist attractions are within easy walking distance.

Central Station, Queen Street Station and Buchanan Street subway and bus stations are all no more than five minutes from the flat. There are public car parks nearby and metered parking is available outside the apartment, although it can be difficult to find a space at busy times of day. Meters are free between 6pm and 8am and all day on Sunday.

Glasgow’s Central Station is just five minutes walk away, and there are plenty of buses and taxis to take you to all parts of the city and further afield.

The subway system rings central Glasgow, allowing quick and easy access round the city. A trip to Hillhead Station is highly recommended – from here you can experience the cosmopolitan, Bohemian West End – Byres Road, Ashton Lane and the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery are highly recommended. Much of the West End is a conservation area, so the architecture is worth a look too – lots of grand old sandstone houses and tenements, plus the Gothic-inspired Glasgow University.

LOCATION

The most desirable residential area of Glasgow, the West End is favoured by Scottish stars of stage and screen. Familiar faces are regularly to be spotted around the area. The area began to be developed in 1840, following the completion of the Great Western Road which for the first time linked the city with the rural areas beyond. In order to attract the moneyed merchants of Glasgow to the West End, houses were designed and built by the most illustrious architects of the day, including such notables as Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. As a result, much of the West End is now a conservation area, and enjoyable hours can be spent just wandering the streets admiring the magnificent architecture.

One of the most striking buildings is the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, recently re-opened after a multi-million pound refurbishment, and now Scotland’s number one tourist attraction, knocking Edinburgh Castle off its long-standing top spot.

Byres Road is the hub of West End life, packed with interesting shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Ashton Lane is a delightful cobbled street lined with restaurants and bars and the small but beautifully proportioned Grosvenor Cinema which shows the latest releases. J K Rowling is reputed to have based Diagon Alley on Ashton Lane, so it’s a must-visit for Harry Potter fans.

Glasgow University off Byres Road is another magnificent building, and its student population has more than a little to do with the area’s well-deserved reputation for being lively and trendy.

Not for nothing is Glasgow know as the ‘Dear Green Place’. The city is full of trees and open spaces, one of the largest of which is the Botanic Gardens off the Great Western Road at the bottom of Byres Road. The magnificent newly-restored Kibble Palace glasshouse in the gardens is well worth a look.
